Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot spoke to the press following a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at Old Trafford in the 14th round of the English Premier League.

Dalot expressed the team’s disappointment: “We feel disappointed. When you lead 1-0 with 30 minutes remaining, you should control the game better, especially at Old Trafford. We can’t get anxious after scoring. Perhaps we were too hasty in our ball possession.”

He added: “Clearly, we are unhappy with the draw. The match was in our hands.”

On the team’s struggle to maintain control, Dalot explained: “We need to find a solution. There could be multiple reasons, but this should not happen. You fight for 60 minutes to score, and when you get the goal, you must continue with the same intensity, maintain possession, and dominate the game—especially in situations like the corner that led to the goal. Plays like that must be avoided against teams skilled in counterattacks.”

Dalot further emphasized: “We knew West Ham would rely on counterattacks and set pieces, and unfortunately, we couldn’t hold the lead. Ultimately, we have to take responsibility—the mistake was more ours than West Ham’s.”

Reflecting on scoring his first Premier League goal at Old Trafford, Dalot said: “It’s a great feeling. Scoring for a club like Manchester United is always special, especially in front of our fans. But the result isn’t what it should be—I’d trade that goal for three points without hesitation. I’m happy to contribute to the team, but this result gives us lessons to learn. We cannot lead at home with 30 minutes left and fail to control the game.”

He concluded by highlighting the season’s stakes: “This is a significant result in terms of impact. We are at a stage where dropping points matters because the gap to the top teams could widen. The gap is still manageable, but it will grow if we aren’t careful. Our goal is to stay in the top four or five, and we must ensure we are in that position.”
